May 2 - Sticker Day
7:35 am
It isn't quite zero-hour, but it's close.
Just as I have all week, I woke up before my alarm went off. On Monday it was 4 am. Today I was able to sleep in.
I slept until 6 am.
As is tradition on my One Lap adventures so far, I stopped at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on my way through town last night, and because it was closed, I had to settle for some time-lapse photography from across the street.
It does look as though this sticker day will go better than 2007 when I spent all day working on the GTP, finally pulling it out of the shop as the sun was going down, but having it fail to shift into second gear. The cars were loaded last night, and both me and the cars should arrive at the Tire Rack sometime between 10 and 11.

11:30 pm
Well, for most sticker day is about over, competitors are nestled all snug in their beds, visions of adventures in ther heads. (or at least hopes that that last beer down at the bar won't make them feel bad in the morning.)
The GTPs arrived and went through tech with no issues, and the day was spent pretty well relaxed, catching up with and talking to friends. For my teammate, things are not as well as he would like, but perhaps they are making their sacrifice so they don't have issues during the event. As of now, in a slight rain, the Mongoose guys, Danny Popp and co-driver Jeremy Herzberg are changing right-side shocks on the yellow car.. things coul dhave gotten off to a smoother start for them. So far for me, my issue was a one lap door banner sticker that blew off going down the road.
I have been there of course.. last year we know where I was at this time of night. Hopefully Danny can get his ride going, and we can get to trying to push to the front of this pack. Tomorrow is the wet skid pad and then Road America before heading to Iowa.
As today was pretty much about the social aspect of things, You get some of the fun pictures.
At left, the order of the day is stickers, lots and lots of stickers.

We also got a couple of famous people in the GTP (and didn't even have to force them, they asked..) Left, four-time consecutive and defending champion Mark DaVia trys on the GTP. At right, Leh Keen driver of the Farnbacher Loles Cayman GT-R in One Lap and their GT porsche in Grand Am squeezes into the GTP, and gives us an "I'm still able to breath" thumbs-up.
So as we go to bed fairly relaxed, perhaps for the first time for a week, No matter the thoughts in their heads, it's Christmas eve for the One Lap regulars and puppies, and tomorrow morning we take the wrappings off the 2008 Tire Rack One Lap of America.
