May 8 - Day 6 - Virginia International Raceway: Alton, Virginia
A first first
Today was three runs at VIR, the first on the South course, and an exercise in harsh braking and slick conditions. Danny had spun off, and I played it a little more conservative. The second session, on the North Course, was drying, and I was far enough back the advantage would pay off.
I love the North course, and I hung it out, I almost lost it a couple of times, but I held on to win the session - a first for me on One Lap. I had help from a drying track of course, but I have been bitten by the drying and wet tracks before, so this is what goes around coming around or something.
The third run, because of my near-misses in the second, I backed off a bit. The car also wouldn't shift into 4th gear on the back straight, and so wouldn't go abover 146mph. Not good when the competition is going 165. No matter though, I collected my first Tire Rack One Lap of America Stage win. Today, so the poor finish in the third session didn't bother me.
