May 10 - Day 8 - TireRack Dry Skid Pad: South Bend, Indiana
I think last year I asked that I would have an event where it didn't come down to the skidpad for some big final result.
This isn't exactly what I meant.
If you take away my time penalties for being late, I would be in 13th. Instead I entered the final event somewhere in the low 20s.
We did make a couple of adjustments to the car to make it go better, as I wanted good numbers for Mongoose. It ended up being pretty good. I went 1.06g in the Orange car, and Popp went 1.09 - setting a new Tire Rack Record - in the Yellow car. It was good for first (Popp) and fourth (me) overall. As I have said. The cars are fast as hell. They grip like hell. It's the transition to and from cornering that we need to work on. The transmission caused all but two of my spins, and those I feel were caused by more of a lack of testing than anything else. If we run the same speeds we do, without the mechanically-induced spins or penalties, I finish 6th overall. There are no "ifs" in motorsports though, and this event needs all but perfection to run up front. This year, we weren't perfect.
I ended up finishing 17th. One spot lower than I did in a bone stock Lancer Evo VIII in 2003.

The GPS unit at the end of the event.. We only turned it off when we went to a hotel - or slept for the night in the car - or when we were at the racetracks. It was left running at gas stations or while we were broke on the side of the road. Notice the 83.2 mph top speed - done in a 75 mph zone in Texas. Bottom line, we pretty much don't speed.
