Mongoose Motorsports
History
Mongoose Motorsports started in 1992 as D&D Corvettes building Grand Sport Coupe replicas. The Grand Sports are replicas of the "Cobra Killer" Corvettes GM built in 1963 to fight the Ford Shelby Cobras that were dominating at the time.
Early motorsport events for the team were sporadic. There were several Kit Car Magazine "Run N' Gun" events in the 90's and a 28th overall/3rd place in class One Lap of America in 1996 with designer Dean Hoskins and Jeff Nestor on board.
Things got a little busier in 2001 when Dean and Aaron Quine climbed in Bill Adam's Grand Sport roadster replica and braved wind and rain without the aid of a roof to finish 18th overall and first in the Vintage American Class. The same year, Mike Miller and Aaron Quine drove Grand Sports at the Run N' Gun, with Miller winning his class in the autocross and road course events, and finishing second overall in the drag race.
In 2002, Aaron came back to drive a Mongoose Grand Sport - this time with a roof - and finished One Lap of America in second place overall, repeating as winner in the Vintage American class.
In 2006, D&D production rights were bought by Mongoose Motorsports. Hoskins stayed on board and quickly added the GTP replica to go along side the Grand Sport in his design portfolio. The GTP is a replica of the Lola-built IMSA "Grand Touring Prototype" campaigned for Chevrolet by Rick Hendrick Racing and a few privateers from 1984-1988.
In 2007 Mongoose took their cars to the track, setting fastest time of the day (despite what it says in Kit Car Magazine) at the London Cobra Show autocross with the Grand Sport, winning class at the Corvette Cleveland Time Trial At Nelson Ledges Racecourse on Labor Day, again in the Grand Sport, and dominating the 2007 Kit Car Run N' Gun with four class wins - two each in the Grand Sport and GTP - and being crowned "Overall Top Dog" with the GTP.
