Jon Krolewicz is teaming up with AMS and Martin Musial again this year to drive the Automotosports 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII in the 2006 Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America Presented by Car & Driver. Jon's dad Ray Krolewicz is also going along for the ride to help with the overnight drives.
Last year Jon, Martin, and Ray finished seventh overall and second in the mid-priced sedan class despite a slew of problems that plagued them during the week.
You can see Jon's 2005 day-by-day report here.
This year’s car, a APR wide-body 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII, will crank out over 600 horsepower from an AMS 2.3 liter “stroker” motor, putting it to the ground through an Exedy triple carbon clutch, and 295/35/18 Kumho tires.
AMS currently runs the world’s fastest drag racing Evolution VIII in the NDRA. The drag car puts out over 800 wheel horsepower, and runs the quarter mile in 9.41 seconds and has a trap speed of 156mph.
One Lap of America is an annual event in which competitors drive street vehicles from track to track where they compete in time trial competitions. This year's One Lap will take eight days, and competitors will drive 4000 miles through 16 states with stops in eight. Competitors will get points for finishing positions in 19 competitions on nine different road courses, a skid pad, a drag strip and an oval located in the heart of NASCAR country.
Close to 100 other teams will compete for honors in eight classes in the Event that runs May 6 through May 13.
